It’s Summer, which means most of your kids are on Summer break and if you need to add something on your Summer to-do list, this place should be one of them!
I’ve taken Cody here a few times when he was younger but haven’t been in a while. I was going to be spending the day in Orange County and I was also going to have my girlfriend’s 2 year old son with us, so I figured this was the perfect place to take them to run around and burn off some energy.
What i’ve always liked about this place is that it’s full of hands on and educational activities for kids of all ages. It’s fun and they are learning as well, which is always a plus!
They show certain movies in 4D in their showcase theatre for a lot cheaper then regular movie theaters as well! Right now the movie they will be showing from June 17-July 7, is Finding Dory. If you see a movie the same day you visit it’s an additional $3.00, which is a steal!
Along with all it’s hands on learning activities, the Dinosaur Quest is my favorite area of the Cube. It’s a place to learn about fossils and how they are found. You also get to walk through a life-size Argentinosaurus and learn about the inside organs and body. While you’re walking around and exploring Dino Quest, kids can become “research assistance” while they look for fossils and go on research missions. Your children will need to go to the Dino Quest office and pick up a transmitter and their mission before they get started. This is so awesome for kids because it’s like going on a super fun adventure finding and learning all things Dino! When they are done with their mission they can pick up a little token which rewards them for finishing it.
Something we haven’t done at the Discovery Cube that I thought was interesting and fun for the kids was, the Discovery Market. The entire market area is set up like a real life market and the kids get to push around a shopping cart with a scanner attached. They first choose a shopping list and before they can scan the items to add to their cart, they have to answer a question based on which is the healthiest.
You can learn more about each of the different areas at the Discovery Cube, ticket pricing and hours on their website before you go.
Perfect Spot for: Children 1-10 years old where they can learn and explore through tons of hands on activities
Tip: Weekdays between the hours of 2:00-4:00 pm are usually less crowded. Their site says you cannot bring outside food or drinks inside, but every time we’ve gone no one checks our bags and i’ve always brought in water and little snacks for Cody.
Ticket Deals: If you live near Orange County and have little ones, the 2 year membership is the best deal because for $124 you can bring in 2 adults that are listed and up to 4 kids from the same household as well. It’s $25 more dollars then the 1 year membership and each visit per adult is already $17.95 and children age 3-14 is $12.95. If you plan to go more then once a year, especially to their special attractions, this is totally worth it!
Fun Fact: They have sleepover parties here! Find out more on their site!
